How to write a resume to get your dream senior living job

Posting date: 07/25/25

Here at SRG Senior Living, we have a huge number of great options for those looking for a challenging and rewarding career in senior living. Our roles are some of the best on the market, which means we get a high volume of resumes for everyone we advertise.

If you are looking to stand out from the crowd, dive into our bitesize tips to help you take your senior living resume to the next level.

How to write a good resume

Making your resume simple to navigate will make it easy for hiring managers to find what they are looking for.

Here are some best practices for how to write a good resume that’s clear and stands out from the crowd:

  • Make sure your contact information is up-to-date. It may sound basic, but it's crucial. Double-check your phone number, email address, and LinkedIn profile to ensure potential employers can easily reach you.
  • Tailor your resume by including skills and details that truly matter for the job you're aiming for. Think of it as your job-specific highlight reel! If you get stuck, research top skills for your industry, like skills for a medication aide resume for example, and consider how you match up
  • Include a good summary at the top of your resume. Share what makes you suited to the role, impactful results and what excites you about working in senior living.
  • Put your best foot forward by showcasing your stellar skills, hands-on experience, and impressive qualifications, and treat your relevant certifications and training as VIP badges that set you apart.
  • Keep it short and sweet! Try to keep everything to 1 or 2 pages. Think of it as creating a movie trailer for your career.

Whilst it’s important to be concise, your resume still needs to sell you and your skills. Follow these tips to help you create a compelling resume:

Use strong action verbs

Make your resume come alive by using strong action verbs to describe your past responsibilities and achievements.

Instead of saying you "helped" or "assisted," opt for words like "led," "initiated," or "achieved." These verbs inject energy into your resume and showcase your proactive approach.

Highlight the impact of your achievements

Don't just list your achievements; explain why they were beneficial for the company you worked for. Consider what matters to the organization you’re applying to, and what qualities they look for in successful candidates.

Show the real-world impact of your contributions. For example, if you implemented a new sales strategy, mention how it led to a specific increase in revenue or market share.

Quantify your achievements

Including data on your resume can increase your chances of landing an interview by 40%. Numbers speak volumes. Wherever possible, use numbers or statistics to quantify your experience and achievements.

For instance, mention that you increased sales by 30% or reduced project turnaround time by 20%. Quantifying your accomplishments adds credibility and gives employers a clear sense of your contributions.

Tailoring your resume to the role

Taking the time to tailor your resume to the role and the organization will help you:

  • Show your genuine interest in the role.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the organization's values.
  • Increase your chances of standing out to hiring managers.

To craft a compelling resume for senior living highlight skills and experiences that resonate with the organization’s philosophy.

Do this by researching the organization you’re applying to. For example, explore our values at SRG. Go beyond our about page, connect with us on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn or read our blogs and employee stories to learn more about life at SRG.

Incorporate industry-specific terms and keywords relevant to the job. This not only demonstrates your understanding of the field but also helps your resume get noticed by automated applicant tracking systems (ATS).

For example, for licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses seeking greater nursing job satisfaction, senior living is the place to be. You may very well have all the necessary experience but it’s important to tailor the language to match the ethos and responsibilities in the advertised role.

Explore job descriptions for these clinical positions to understand what matters to the organization then tailor the language on your resume.
