From physical support to emotional connection, Caregivers offer so much to those that they serve. Recognizing the selfless work of caregivers is essential every day of the year, however, it comes into particular focus with National Caregivers Day.

To the Senior Resource Group team, National Caregivers Day is a special time. It represents an opportunity to say thank you to the exceptional caregivers who are part of the SRG community. Thank you for the amazing work they do to make sure that everyone in every SRG community feels a valued part of the family.

What is National Caregivers Day and when is National Caregivers Day in 2026? 

Observed on the third Friday in February, which this year falls on February 20th, National Caregivers Day is a day to celebrate and recognize the essential work of the caregiving community. This incorporates those providing emotional, physical and psychological support across a wide spectrum of industries and circumstances, from family caregivers to those working as caregivers in a professional capacity. 

The idea for this important day of recognition and appreciation of caregivers was a bright spark from the Providers Association for Home Health & Hospice Agencies. In 2016, the first National Caregivers Day was officially observed. 

Practicing caregiver appreciation every day of the year

While February 20th may be the 2026 National Caregivers Day, recognizing the selfless work of caregivers is something that should be done year-round. Caregivers not only fill a vital healthcare need, they also improve the quality of life for millions of people across the US. 

Caregiving can be a deeply rewarding career, but it can also be emotionally and at times physically challenging. It is vital that caregivers are supported and appreciated so they can provide the best care to those they are assisting. 

With an ageing population, an increasing number of people are finding they need to rely on caregivers. Studies have found as many as 30% of adults over the age of 65 receive some form of help or assistance, and close to one in five Americans are classed as caregivers.

But, as the saying goes, you can't pour from an empty cup. So, at SRG we continually work to support our caregivers, not just on National Caregivers Day, but every day of the year. This support better equips our caregivers to look after their own needs and in turn, they can better care for the needs of those they are dedicated to helping as well.
