Why Receptionist Norinda has a smile on her face every day

But what makes a receptionist job at a senior living community so special? We caught up with one of our stellar Front Desk team members, Norinda Kocher, who works at Silver Springs in Arizona. Norinda tells us why she has a smile on her face every day. 

What’s your background story? Share a little about yourself

I’m from the Philippines, and I love Arizona – I've lived here for 30 years now. I visit my family in Laguna every chance I can get. After attending 2 years of college on a Pharmacy Course at the National University in Manila, I left for the United States.

What about the Receptionist job at SRG caught your eye? 

I joined the Silver Springs Community team as a receptionist in 2002, making me one of the longest running employees. The role offered the opportunity to interact with many people on a regular basis. I’m a pretty optimistic person and care about delivering a positive experience for my team mates, and our residents and guests. 

There’s also plenty of variety. I’m now also the editor of the Resident Telephone Directory and Welcome Book.

I really love my work schedule. SRG always find a way to accommodate work to fit with your lifestyle, with flexible scheduling to help balance work and personal commitments. 

What do you enjoy most about your job? 

I love working in Silver Springs, I practically grew up here! I’m proud to share that I’ve been a two-time “Employee of the Month” in my time here. I particularly love being at the Front Desk, every day is different. For example, welcoming new Residents offers new challenges and opportunities depending on their needs. I enjoy meeting and helping people from all walks of life, it’s a very engaging and exciting part of my job. It’s very rewarding seeing smiles throughout the day, and knowing that you played a part in creating a positive experience that day.

How has SRG supported your career development and what opportunities have you had to progress? 

I like training newly hired team members. Mentoring a co-worker has been part of my development and sharing what I have learned on a day-to-day basis at the Front Desk helps reinforce my knowledge and skills. SRG also offers opportunities to excel in career development with their new tools like the E-learning Program.

What's been your most epic moment at the company so far? 

Having worked at SRG since 2002, I have many epic moments to look back on. Whilst catching up with my manager, Lisa, she reminded me about a painting I did of the Silver Springs Community on canvas. 

Painting is my little hobby, I love to paint when I am not working. Another one that comes to mind is when SRG started the wellness program back in 2019. They ran different competitions including a walking challenge, and Silver Springs won 1st Place! I was the first employee in Silver Springs Community to take a few steps in this walking challenge, alongside my team mate, Marlyce Conriquez, a Caregiver. Silver Springs even has the trophy to show for it.

What makes SRG different from any other company? 

SRG is constantly changing for the better every year, from creating innovative community design and continually improving the grounds to excellent service, exceptional care, and more, creating the best experience for residents and employees. Some initiatives that standout are engaging apps like, Lifeloop for residents and now MySRG, a new and exciting tool to meet other employees in different Communities.
